In a shocking twist to the “abduction" of an 18-year-old woman in Telangana, police said that she staged the kidnapping to elope with her 24-year-old boyfriend, and later they got married in a temple.
The twist comes hours after a purported video showed four people forcibly taking the woman in a car and driving off in Rajanna Sircilla district. The girl later released a video on social media saying that she staged the kidnapping as her parents opposed her marriage to a Dalit man.
“We got married one year ago. Since I was a minor back then, my parents didn’t accept it and filed a case against my husband. Now we are adults, so we got married. They are still objecting since my husband is a Dalit," the girl stated in the video.
SP Sircilla Rahul Hegde said the girl has given a statement through social media that she has gone with her boyfriend willingly and they both got married in a temple.
Earlier, CCTV footage showed the woman being forcibly taken in a car as her father makes an unsuccessful attempt to rescue her. The father later alleged that the accused had beaten him before abducting the woman.
The incident occurred in Moodepalle village in Chandurthi mandal of the district at around 5.30 am when the woman, a college student, and her father were proceeding to a temple, as per the police.
A complaint was then lodged with the police by the victim’s father alleging that he was beaten up by the gang before his daughter was kidnapped. One of the accused was from the girl’s village, he said.
“Case registered and we’re making all efforts to trace them. Four people are involved in the incident. The girl had eloped with her lover in the past. Now as she has become an adult, he (her lover) might have taken her. Three teams formed to nab them," Vemulawada DSP, Nagendra Chary was quoted as saying by ANI.
The couple had reportedly eloped a few months back but they were counselled by the police and she returned to her parents, as per officials.
