Rajesh Kumar, hailing from Chhapra in Bihar, had planned to wed Rinku Kumari, a woman from Saran. However, during the wedding rituals, Putul, Rinku's sister, called Rajesh and threatened to commit suicide by jumping off a building if he married Rinku. This caused Rajesh to halt the wedding after the varmala ceremony and confess that he was in love with Putul and wanted to marry her instead.
As a result, both families erupted into a heated argument, requiring police intervention to resolve the matter. It was later discovered that Rajesh and Putul had fallen in love before he had even proposed to Rinku. They had spent considerable time together during Putul's visits to Chhapra for her intermediate exams, and gradually developed an affectionate bond.
Putul found it unbearable to witness Rajesh marry her elder sister and had only two options - to stop the wedding or end her life. After understanding the entire situation, both families agreed to wed Rajesh and Putul to each other, bringing a happy end to the tense situation.
