India and Pakistan to Face Off in Highly-Anticipated Match at 2023 ICC Men's ODI World Cup in India

According to a report published in Cricbuzz, the 2023 edition of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup is set to take place in India in October and November this year, with the much-anticipated match between India and Pakistan scheduled for October 15. The tournament will kick off with a match between last edition's finalists England and New Zealand on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and the final will also be held at the same venue on November 19.

India will play their tournament opener against five-time winners Australia, and as reported by the Indian Express, the match will most likely take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Pakistan, on the other hand, will play their matches in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru.

The designated venues for the tournament are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi, Indore, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Rajkot, Raipur, and Mumbai. Mohali and Nagpur did not make the cut, but the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which hosted the final of the 2011 ODI World Cup, is likely to get a semifinal.

The tournament will follow a round-robin format where each team will play against the other one at least once. At the end of nine matches for each team, the top four teams will qualify for the semifinals. In total, there will be 10 teams and 48 games in the World Cup, with India, England, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and South Africa having already qualified for the event. The remaining two spots will be filled through a qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe in June-July, in which two former champions, the West Indies and Sri Lanka, will compete along with the Netherlands, Ireland, Nepal, Oman, Scotland, the UAE, and host Zimbabwe.
